Australia, 1939. A young country recovering from the Great Depression and now on the brink of World War Two. With dreams of finding a better life, Thomas and William Norton (played by real life brothers Darren and Matthew Holmes) are embarking on a 500 mile journey on foot across south-eastern Australia.

But when their journey takes an unexpected turn, the two brothers find themselves embraced by a riverside community. New friendships are formed and new dreams are discovered, challenging the brothers’ loyalty

to each other in an emotionally charged story of love and loss.

‘Twin Rivers’ is a heartfelt coming-of-age drama that captures the romance, tragedy and spirit of a by-gone era. Over 6 years in the making, Twin Rivers features an impressive debut cast, a captivating original score and stunning Australian imagery.

"This by-Australians, for-Australians coming-of-age drama took a whopping

six years to complete, and it was well worth the wait. The first of hopefully

many feature films from writer-director-actor Matthew Holmes, Twin Rivers

tells the story of two brotherson a journey from Broken Hill to Melbourne in

1939.... superior performances of an entirely amateur cast and a stunningly

beautiful Australian landscape that's almost a character in itself.

An independent epic that oozes more authenticity than most period films

produced these days." - 4 / 5 stars, EMPIRE MAGAZINE

“Bravo! Twin Rivers is a splendid film which beautifully evokes

our rural heritage. . . it’s an old fashioned hit!" PETER GOERS

“... a wonderful, involving and truly Australian story... richly detailed

and emotional. A beautiful and handsome production which captures

atmosphere and characters of the period . . .”    STAN JAMES

“One of the best Australian films I have ever seen... incredibly

emotionally engaging... a wonderful evocation of the period.”   CAROL WHITELOCK

Twin Rivers is a unique and highly ambitious independent film in the tradition of classic Australian period dramas such as ‘The Shiralee’, ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ and ‘Sunday Too Far Away.’ With a strong focus on engaging characters and timeless themes, ‘Twin Rivers’ is a film destined to capture the hearts of its audience.

A team of talented and determined South Australians were assembled to bring 'Twin Rivers' to the screen, including local author Meredith Resce who came on board as co-writer and Associate Producer. Without the aid of financial support, the production spanned 6 years and involved over 300 volunteers, making ‘Twin Rivers’ a truly amazing achievement.

Shot entirely in South Australia, ‘Twin Rivers’ features beautiful and distinctive landscapes from locations such as the Lower Flinders Ranges, the Barossa Valley, the Mallee Plains, Murray Bridge and the Mt. Lofty Ranges. Costumes and sets were carefully researched to authentically recreate 1939 Australia and transport the audience to this nostalgic period of history.

‘Twin Rivers’ premiered at the CAPRI THEATRE in Adelaide on August 4th, 2007 to an audience of 720 people. It is distributed throughout Australia and New Zealand by DV1 Entertainment. It is currently seeking overseas distribution.

Twin Rivers was part of the official selection in the 2008 DeReel Independent Film Festival and was nominated for Best Feature in the 2009 South Australian Screen Awards.
